Louis-Paul Rivest Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada


The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and its Members have elected this year’s new Fellows and named the incoming class of The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. One of these is Louis-Paul Rivest from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Laval University.

Louis-Paul Rivest is an applied statistician holding a Canada Research Chair in Statistical Sampling and Data Analysis. He is a pioneer of the mathematical theory of copulas for modeling stochastic dependence. His work in multivariate analysis, directional statistics, capture-recapture models and in survey sampling have had a fundamental impact on the applications of statistical sciences in finance, actuarial sciences, social statistics, environmental science, and biomechanics.
