Self-training on shared decision making for prenatal screening and diagnosis of trisomies

As promised in the deliverables of the WP4 group of the large PEGASUS trial led by Drs. Rousseau and Langlois, we are pleased to share with you this new and tangible impact of our research:

Our self-training module is now registered and offered on the Pédagogia website of the Faculty of Medicine of Laval University. This training was tested in a stepped wedge randomised cluster trial conducted in 32 clinical sites in Quebec and whose funding was obtained from Genome Canada, Quebec and British Columbia as well as partners including Greybox. It was based on a first version also tested and whose results had been published https://nursing.jmir.org/2022/1/e31380/ . However, its final version includes additional modules as well as role plays. It has allowed several students to train in public health, nursing or biostatistics.

Shared decision-making for prenatal screening and diagnosis of trisomies 21, 18 and 13
In this training, learners will have the opportunity to become familiar with the concept of shared decision-making and the use of a decision-making tool during clinical consultations and, more specifically, in the context of prenatal screening and diagnosis of trisomies 21, 18 and 13.
This training, as well as the decision-making tool, were developed in partnership with pregnant women, their partners, and prenatal care professionals. In addition, research results have shown that the tool is appreciated by stakeholders and that the training is effective.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
• Apply shared decision-making in prenatal meetings; • Use a decision support tool entitled “What are my options for prenatal screening and diagnosis of trisomies?”

Teaching format: Self-learning modules
Duration: 2 hours
Accessibility: 90 days
Recognition: 2 hours of recognized professional development activity (category A or section 1)/2 continuing education units (CEUs) for health professionals

We will explore options to make it available in English in the coming months.
